You all remember that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! right? One week ago another 996 was put for sale on Dallas Craigslist, and it also has an LS engine.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
This time an LS3 has been fitted though, which makes for a great upgrade in power and torque. We are now talking 430hp which is a 130hp increase over standard.
Even better is the story of who built it: the swap was carried out by
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
. Their sort of hybrid isn't a Prius but any 911, 944 or 914 with V8s and Subaru flat 4s. There even is a video of the car in action:
The professionaly done swap means adapted cooling system, gauges, gearbox and Porsche exhaust system. Power steering seems to be converted as well.
For 37.5k $ the price is about 13 grand above the other LS911.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
. Now what do you say, NPoCP?

37.5K for a 15 year old 911? Most definitely CP... but I'm not saying I wouldn't hit that pipe. I'm now dreaming of a 2 wheel drive 996 with an LS7 backed by a 911 turbo transaxle.

I guess for a plug 'n play solution, this is still better than a homebrew version, but the price is a little steep for a Frankenstein in my world. Sure you could have x V6 'Stangs. . . But really I am wondering about the support they give to the swaps they perform. But really I'd rather just pick up a decent TT and fix the known issues and enjoy, as this swapped 996 is in the same territory of the TT but with pushrod power. Maybe it was too much time working on Fords, but I am not fully convinced on pushrod powerplants. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate GM but I'm not convinced on them yet. When it comes down to it though I'd rather be a purist and have a corrected 996TT for this price than an LS powered 4s.

TT = TargaTop?
The 996 just isn't an interesting choice of 911 - I'd rather have a stock 964 or 993. But the LS swap makes it desirable for me. It is that completley wrong looking/sounding engine that would make it stand out and give it a new character.
And it also would piss of purists which I'd love to do.
About the pushrods: frankly I am not an engineer enough to argue about pros and cons, but seeing how many LSs are performing in Corvettes and any chassis around the world there must be sth. right with the concept.

a 2 wheel drive 996 with an LS7 backed by a 911 turbo transaxle.
Oh boy. Slap on a GT3 bodykit and you have an epic 996.
Agree about the price. At ~28k it would be a steal, but 37k is probably 996 Turbo money.

No, TT is for the twin turbo 996.
For the price of this 996 with an LS in the rear, you can have any 996 variant from turbo down the range. I don't mind pissing purists off, but I do mind that you can get a very nice 996 4S, which is what this particular car was made out of, for less than what this car is listed for. Really there are two main weaknesses of the H6 motors in the 996 which have known fixes that make the motor very reliable. I don't see the value in this motor swap, yes the LS motors are proven, but I am still wary of motor swaps like this. It may just be that I live in the land of California which will make this car damn hard to pass a referee check, but my feelings are that I would much rather have a turbo H6 with AWD rather than a put together V8 AWD car with half a Porsche brain and half a Chevy brain. I just think it is asking for trouble when you combine manufacturers components and expect it to be a daily driver, like the video suggests.
I'd rather just fix the IMS issues of the 996 and know that everything should work fine.
On to the pushrod statement I made, I am not an engineer, I have admittedly biased views, but I really have not become a fan of the LS motors. By any means I'm not saying they are terrible, it is just that I'm not a convert of the church of the LS motor.

I am a P Car fan, but the 996 is so ugly, it makes Baby Jesus cry.

Does anyone know what the actual redline is in a standard LS3? The one problem I can see is that the tach's redline is 7100 rpm, and I always thought the redline in an LS3 was about 6000-6600 at most. This thing had better have a rev limiter or fuel cutoff.

Not convinced of pushrod power?? have u been under a rock for the last 60 years?
How many more DOHC cars need to lose to a pushrod car to convince you?

Cool car, but crack pipe 996TT price range price.
Chassis with blown motor but functional transmission: ~$10k
Turn key LSx crate engine: ~$7.5k
So is the labor, custom parts, and miscellaneous parts worth ~$20k? I'm not seeing it - especially when you can get a LSx swapped FD3S for $20k chassis included.
